Things to do around Illinois: Clinton Lake State Recreation Area

Sun, sand, and warm water. How can you go wrong?

Clinton Lake is a popular place to visit during the summer. It is great for swimming, camping, boating, fishing and relaxing. It is located only 37 miles from Champaign-Urbana.

You will love to spend time on this beach. People do many activities like swimming, boating and sunbathing. During the summer, the water is very warm. The beach is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The admission to the recreation area is free, but you will pay for the beach and camping access. The admission is only $2 per person and free for children under 3 years old. Alcoholics drinks are not allowed in the beach.

The camp, on the other hand, is open year-round with the exception of the full week prior to first firearm deer season. Each site is equipped with a grill and picnic table. Showers and potable water are available from mid-April to November. If you pretend to drink alcohol, make sure to not book the camping loops H, I, J, and K because they are alcohol-free. Depending on the weekend the loops can fill quickly, so make sure to do you reservation a little prior the date you want to go.
