Permanent vs. Temporary Visitors Driver’s License

Will I receive a Permanent Illinois Driver’s License or a temporary visitors Driver’s License? 

If you qualify for a Social Security number and plan to stay in the country for a longer period of time, you may receive a permanent Illinois Driver’s license.

 However, if you are do not qualified for a Social Security number and plan to stay in the country for a year or more, you might receive a Temporary Visitor Driver’s license.  

As it was mentioned in our previous Blog, if you wait for too long before deciding to apply for the Driver’s license, you may not qualify for it at all. To receive the Temporary Visitor Driver’s license, you need “to be authorized in the country for at least one year and have at least six months remaining on an authorized stay.” For more information on theTemporary Visitor Driver’s license, please check the website
