2135 S Neil St,
Champaign, IL 61820

Carribean Grill is a more unnoticed restaurant due to its distance from campus but easily one of the best places on this list. The food is heavily inspired by island/Carribean cuisine influences and foods range from jerk chicken to  meatballs to currie. With refreshing teas and lemonades, the entire culinary experience will make you feel like you’re on the beach listening to the waves hit the shore.

Fernando’s Food Truck
(217) 255-0210

If you’re walking through downtown Champaign or even sometimes around the engineering quad, you might catch Fernando’s food truck with the bull logo stamped onto the side. A simple yet authentic flavor profile for the menu as it only contains the regular lineup of Mexican food: tacos, tortas, quesadillas, breakfast sandwiches, and their signature corn in the cup topped off with the chilli powder. The menu is the farthest thing from complicated yet the flavor is enough to keep bringing the crowd back.

Li’l Porgy’s Barbeque
1917 West Springfield Ave.
Champaign, IL 61821

One of the more traditional establishments around campus can be found in Urbana. From rib tips to beef briskets, this place has everything to satisfy your BBQ needs. You don’t need the highest spice tolerance to eat here but you should prepare for the tangy and flavorful sauces to knock your socks off. They have great daily specials that will reel you in to try all seven throughout the week that you won’t get bored of because they also have so many sauce variations.

 Sakanaya
403 E Green St,

This Japanese restaurant makes delightful sushi accompanied by some of the best ramen found in town. This isn’t the ramen students are used to making in their dorm, it’s prepared with genuine fresh ingredients. The dimly lit restaurant with modern designs along the walls will take you out of Champaign and transport you around the world as you bite into one of their various options of sushi offered.

Bon Appetit !
