Documents Needed to Rent a Car

To rent a car you
will need to present 2 forms of identification, a driver’s license, and credit
card. Some companies require you to be at least 21 years old and to make
reservation in advance (depending on the location).

For example, some companies in Champaign
requires the following:

  • International
visitors need to be at least 21 years old
    older (minimum age requirement
    might vary)
  • A
home country driver’s license with a photo
. Make sure your license is not expired. If your driver’s license is not
    in English, an international driver’s
    license/or a Permit
(in English) is strongly recommended, but not
mandatory. Sometimes, translation of the drive’s license is also accepted. Remember
to bring the original documents with you. Photocopies are not accepted.
  • A
    Credit Card or Debit Card
(For security reasons, some companies accept Credit Card only and don’t accept cash).
It is always a good idea to check the website of the company before renting a
    car).

– Make sure that you have a Credit Card with your name listed on it. Some companies might not accept a  Credit/ or Debit card without the name of the person who made the reservation. In this case, the company might have you to pay in cash a security deposit which will be returned when you return the rental car.

If you are
planning to rent a car from Champaign to O’Hare airport (let’s say, you want to
rent a car for 4 people) it would cost you around $109,32. Prices will vary
depending on the city of departure, car chosen, and the company.

It is a good idea
to check the specific requirements of the rental company to make sure you
understand the rental rules and requirements and avoid headaches.

*University students might have
specials discounts, ask your company if that applies.
