In the United States, students attend school full-time
(usually from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.). Evenings classes aren’t available at elementary
or secondary levels. The school year starts in August/September and ends in
June. June and July is the summer vacation in the United States. The semester look
like this:

Fall Semester (July/August – December) : Children usually start school
in Mid-July or August. For example,
in 2016, the
First Day of School was July 19th.
Nov. 22-24 – Thanksgiving Break;
December 20th-21st
– End of Fall semester – Winter break starts.
 Spring Semester (January to May/June)
Jan. 09th – School begins; March 12-30th
– Spring Break; May 30 & 31 – Early Dismissal

Tip: Sometimes
the school uses “Snow Days” to refer to “day-off” for the students. That does
not necessarily mean it is a snow day. For example, Champaign has snow Days in
June 4-8 (during summer time).
